New Organic Regulations - March 2024
February 15th, 2024
Being one of the largest sellers of organic glycerine in North America does not come without its challenges. Recent years have seen an increase in organic fraud, the deceptive representation of nonorganic products as organic for financial gain. This intentional deception can pose a health hazard and Rierden Chemical is committed to verifying and importing certified organic materials. To combat this, the USDA has approved the Strengthening Organic Enforcement (SOE) regulations to protect the integrity in the organic supply chain and to foster trust between the organic industry and consumers. The SOE also strengthens oversight and enforcement of the production, handling, and sale of organic products. Starting in March 2024, Rierden Chemical is updating our Organic Fraud Prevention Plan (OFPP) aimed at preventing organic fraud and verifying the status of suppliers and organic products to align with the SOE. See the new SEO regulations here.
In addition to the new updates to the OFPP, Rierden Chemical has been organic certified, by Quality Assurance International, since 2022. To be organic certified, it is required that our business passes annual inspections to confirm supply chain practices are consistent with organic regulations. Certification protects consumers from fraud, assures organic identity preservation from seed to shelf and boosts the consumers’ confidence that they are buying an organic product. Rierden Chemical is also compliant with the FDA’s Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP). Being compliant with this program allows our customers to be assured that our global suppliers are meeting the same food safety requirements as US companies. As a participant in the global marketplace, we have a strong and direct relationship with producers around the world and actively work with them to ensure products follow the organic process throughout their time in our supply chain.
During our organic import process, Rierden Chemical requires our international partners to use a USDA National Organic Program Import Certificate. This certificate, which accompanies the shipment from the warehouse to its destination, states that imported products are at an international standard which are equivalent to the USDA organic regulations.
Rierden Chemical carries Glycerine USP Kosher – Certified Organic, with feedstocks in flaxseed and rapeseed. After importing organic material from India, the product goes to one of several strategic warehouses, located in Los Angeles and New Jersey, where it is then distributed across the US.
